*Courses completed shall include English 9, 10, 11, and 12.
ºCourses completed to satisfy this requirement shall be at or above the level of Algebra and shall include at least three different course selections
from among: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, or other mathematics courses above the level of Algebra II.
¹Courses completed to satisfy this requirement shall include course selections from at least three different science disciplines from among Earth
Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
²Courses completed to satisfy this requirement shall include U.S. and Virginia History, U.S. and Virginia Government, and two of either World
History I (to 1500 AD), World History II (from 1500 AD), or World Geography. CGS courses completed to satisfy this requirement shall include
European History, U.S. Government, U.S. History, and Human Geography.
³Courses completed to satisfy the foreign language requirement shall include three credits of one language or two credits each of two languages.
*Courses to satisfy this requirement shall include a Fine Arts or Career/Technical Education unit.
Beginning with students entering ninth grade for the first time in 2013-2014, a student must successfully complete one virtual course to
graduate with an Advanced Studies Diploma. At KGHS, Economics and Personal Finance fulfills this requirement.

Geometry is also taken in parts, both parts must be completed but only one will count as a math unit. The other will count as an elective unit.

 Earn a board-approved career and technical education credential to graduate with a Standard Diploma; and
 Successfully complete one virtual course. At KGHS, Economics and Personal Finance fulfills this requirement.

STANDARDS OF LEARNING TESTING
The Virginia State Board of Education requires that all students enrolled in specified English, mathematics, science, and
social studies courses take the applicable End of Course (EOC)/Standards of Learning test for that course. As a state
requirement, there are no exemptions to taking Standards of Learning tests. Eligible students may, however, take an
alternative assessment.

♦ Students taking Algebra I Part I and Part II will take the Algebra I test following completion of Algebra I Part II.
* Standard Diploma students may choose which one World History/Geography course they wish to take. Advanced Studies Diploma
students will take two World History/Geography courses. World History I (to 1500 AD) taken in 8th grade meets the requirement for
one of these courses.

For both the Standard and Advanced diplomas, students must either complete an Advanced Placement, honors, or International Baccalaureate course OR earn a career and technical education credential approved by the Board of Education. Students seeking an Advanced Studies Diploma will be required to complete two sequential electives.
