10th Grade PSAT Information

During the 2019-2020 school year, King George High School will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT test to every King George High School 10th grade student at no cost. This will allow families to gain access to college and career readiness materials and opportunities such as potential scholarships. As noted in a previous announcement, students in the 11th grade may also take the PSAT/NMSQT; however, they must sign up with Mrs. Morrison in the Counseling office by September 11, 2019. Registration fee is $20.

Listed below are some reasons why students should take the PSAT/NMQST:
  • Grade 10 pre-college testing provides a basis to increase college participation
  • The PSAT is an indicator for performance on the SAT
  • PSAT includes verbal, mathematics, and writing components; it is used as a diagnostic tool to measure strengths and weaknesses for both students and curriculum.
  • The PSAT helps assess academic skills necessary for college-level work.
  • The PSAT in 10th grade is practice for the actual PSAT in 11th grade which doubles as a scholarship competition.
Through the College Board (PSAT), students will be able to share test scores with Khan Academy (test prep) to provide students with individualized practice based on their PSAT performance. Students do have the opportunity to sign up for a monthly newsletter designed to assist them in the college admissions process. No additional preparation for the PSAT is necessary. Students who would like to practice in advance of the test date can visit this website for more information.
