April Scholarships Deadlines

**NEW**Busch Family Scholarship 2018 - Deadline: April 18, 2018
The Busch Family is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior from either Stafford High School or King George High School intending to pursue an education in any accredited community college, junior college, technical, vocational or trade school. The scholarship is intended to cover one year of the cost of tuition, fees, and books at an accredited community college, junior college or trade school and will have a maximum value of up to $3,500 per semester for a total of up to $7,000 per year. Upon successful completion of first year, applicant may re-apply for second year funding. Application available below and in the Counseling office.

NAACP John T. Steward Memorial Scholarship - Deadline: April 19, 2018
Established to honor the memory of Mr. John T. Steward, a native of King George County and active member and leader of the NAACP, by awarding deserving students a donation to support their continuing education. Essay required. Application available below and in the Counseling office.

InFirst Federal Credit Union - Deadline: April 20, 2018
InFirst Federal Credit Union will be awarding two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. Graduating high school seniors who have a membership with InFirst FCU are encouraged to apply. Winners will be chosen based on criteria, including academic achievements, recommendations, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work and job experience. Essays required. See application which is below or in the Counseling office.

King George PTSA 2018 Scholarship - Deadline: April 20, 2018
The King George PTSA is offering a $500 scholarship to a graduating King George High School senior who is pursuing further education at any accredited college, university, technical, vocational, or trade school.  The scholarship will be paid directly to the educational institution upon the awardee’s confirmed enrollment. If applicant withdraws from the institution, the remaining monies will be returned to the King George PTSA scholarship fund. Applicant must show evidence of being accepted at an institution of higher learning and must be a 2017-2018 member of KGHS PTSA by November 15, 2017. King George "Theatre of Purpose" Scholarship - Deadline: April 20, 2018
This scholarship is awarded annually to support King George High School Drama Club seniors who are continuing their education at a university, college or vocational school. This scholarship, established in 2010, is presented in the name of the King George High School Drama Club. This scholarship is intended to encourage the pursuit of learning for an individual or individuals who demonstrate merit. This is a one-time gift for each chosen graduate. The number of scholarships and the amount awarded each year will be determined by the funds available during that particular year. SELECTION CRITERIA: The applicant will be selected by the Scholarship Committee based upon the following criteria: Graduating senior at the King George High School. Has participated in a minimum of two (2) theatre productions. Completed application, submit a typed, 750-1000 word essay. “What I learned by being part of the King George Theatre Department” , and one (1) letter of recommendation/reference from a teacher or another adult (not a family member) (e.g. minister, supervisor/manager, etc.) who has inspired you to further your education and who is familiar with your abilities and accomplishments along with their contact information. Application available below and in the Counseling office.

William Walton Math Memorial Scholarship: Deadline: April 20, 2018
This scholarship, given in memory of KGHS Math teacher William Walton, will be awarded to graduating senior(s) who are successful in Math and plan on seeking a STEM degree. Application available below and in the Counseling office.

Walker-Grant Alumni Association Scholarship - Deadline: April 23, 2018
The Walker-grant Alumni Association will award two (2), one-time, $1,000 scholarship ($500 per semester) to graduating seniors. The scholarships are awarded for one year of full-time undergraduate study in any accredited institution of higher learning, including two-year junior or community college, vocational schools, or four-year colleges. Grants are available for books and other school necessities and will be awarded based upon the availability of funds and need. Application available in the Counseling office and the link below.

Ratcliffe-Owens-Sumner Unit 89, A.L.A. Scholarship - Deadline: April 25, 2018
This scholarship is offered to graduating seniors who will be entering either the nursing or other health related field. Application available below and in the Counseling office.

Richard Cottrell DDS Scholarship - Deadline: April 26, 2018
The scholarship is offered to graduating seniors at King George High School who are wishing to attend a two-year or four-year college or university majoring in Chemistry, Biology, or Health Sciences. Dr Cottrell is seeking academically strong, well-rounded, and highly motivated students. Award amount is $1,000. Application available below and in the Counseling office.

Karen Wallace Friedman Memorial Scholarship - Deadline: April 27, 2018
The Karen Wallace Friedman Memorial Scholarship is a scholarship offered to all outstanding high school seniors attending King George High School. Preference will be given to seniors pursuing a career in Education, Cancer Research, or have been personally affected by cancer. Total amount awarded will be at least $7,500. Total disbursement will be awarded annually upon college or university concurrent enrollment. Application available below and in the Counseling office.

**The GFWC Woman's Club of King George Arts Award: **Deadline EXTENDED: April 27, 2018
This $1,000 award will be given to senior who has demonstrated outstanding talent and execution in the ARTS. [Art, Drama or Music] Any interested senior can pick up an application from the Counseling office to be submitted to his/her teacher who will make a recommendation. Any teacher in these fields may recommend a student of his/her choice for the award.  A sample of the student's Artwork, as well as a detailed description of the student's Art, Drama, or Music ability can be submitted. Applicants should be planning to continue his/her education in the ARTS.  Application available below.

The Viking Hunt Club's Percy Harvey Sr. Memorial Scholarship - Deadline: April 27, 2018
The Viking Hunt Club, in memory of Percy Harvey Sr., is offering this $500 scholarship to a senior at King George High School. This scholarship is intended for the student who plans to continue his or her education. Application is available below and in the Counseling office.

SGT Nicholas C. Mason Memorial Scholarship - Deadline: April 28, 2018
This Fund is intended to promote, perpetuate and encourage the qualities SGT Mason exhibited as an active student, a volunteer, a soldier, and as a citizen. One or more scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors with plans to attend Colleges, Universities, Business or Trade Schools.  The total sum of all scholarships awarded will be a minimum of $5,000. Scholarships will be paid directly to the Educational Institutions upon the Awardee’s confirmed enrollment. Application available below and in the Counseling office.

AMVETS National Scholarships - Deadline: April 30, 2018
AMVETS annually awards scholarships to veterans/active military, their sons, daughters or grand-children. A son, daughter or grandchild of a deceased veteran is also eligible. Awarded on the basis of academic excellence and financial need, the scholarships go to deserving high school seniors, high school JROTC students and veterans pursuing a higher education. Six $4,000 scholarships for high school seniors ($1,000 a year of a four-year undergraduate program or at an accredited technical/trade leading to certification or a degree; one selected from each district). One $1,000 scholarship for a JROTC high school senior entering any undergraduate program (no regard for district boundaries).   Apply online at http://amvets.org/scholarships/

Dahlgren Lions Scholarship - Deadline: April 30, 2018
The Dahlgren Lions Club will offer a scholarship(s) to graduating seniors from King George County who will be attending a college or university. This scholarship is intended as assistance to a highly qualified and motivated student, who may have difficulty with the heavy financial burden of a college education. The amount of the scholarship will be not less than $1,000 and will be sent directly to the college/university to be applied to the student’s account. Essay required. See application for details. Military Officers Association of America Potomac Chapter Scholarship - Deadline: April 30, 2018
The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), Potomac Chapter is offering a college scholarship to a graduating High School senior in the Junior Naval ROTC at King George intending to pursue an education in an accredited college, university, technical, vocational or trade school. The MOAA Scholarship will have a value of at least $1,000 and will be deposited in the student’s account at the institution to which he/she has been accepted.Qualifications: Applicant must be a graduating senior in the NJROTC Unit at King George High School.  Applicant must show evidence of applying and/or being accepted at a learning institution pursuing higher education. Optimist Club of King George Scholarship - Deadline: April 30, 2018
The Optimist Club of King George is offering scholarships to King George County graduating seniors intending to pursue an education in any accredited college, university, technical, vocational, or trade school. The Optimist scholarships will have a minimum value of $1000.00 but may be increased, funds permitting. Scholarship funds for awardees will be deposited in the student’s account at the institution to which he/she has been accepted. Qualifications: Applicant must be a graduating senior from King George County. Applicant must show evidence of applying for and being accepted at a learning institution pursuing higher education.  Application available in the Counseling Office and the link below.
