Fredericksburg Regional Governor's School for Gifted Students

SUMMER MENTORSHIP PROGRAM:  
For Rising 11 and 12 graders - Identified as gifted and selected by their school division.

June 15 - June 26, 2020  8am - 4:30pm (times & dates may vary depending on placement)

The program is designed to give students exposure to a career field of interest. (Technology, science, medicine and other areas not available during the school year.) Students will be placed with professionals at an area business who will share their knowledge of the career. Students should anticipate spending time observing the operations of the business and asking questions of staff. Please note that this is not an internship but rather an opportunity to gain insight into the aspects of a particular career of interest. Times at the businesses will vary from location to location. 

Cost: Tuition Free - The Fredericksburg Regional Governor's School is supported by their business community, the participating school divisions and a grant from the State Department of Education, Programs of the GIfted.

Students selected to attend this program must provided their own transportation to and from the mentor sites.

CHEMISTRY LAB/FORENSIC SCIENCE PROGRAM:
For Rising 10, 11 & 12 grades - Identified as gifted and selected by their school division

June 22 - 26, 2020  9am - 3pm

This program will provide opportunities for students to gain practical knowledge of chemistry laboratory procedures and to develop thinking skills, problem solving methods, and team work. Students will use their skills to analyze unknowns. No previous experience in chemistry is necessary for this course. James Monroe High School will be the base school.
