New KGHS Scholarship Opportunity for 9th-11th grade

King George County Administrator and retired Army officer, Dr. Neiman Young, established this scholarship in December 2017 to support King George County Public Schools' students who are pursuing an Associates's Degree while in high school. Dr. Young and his wife, Stephanie, believe in promoting the pursuit of excellence for King George County youth and in the advancement in education utilizing local resources.

King George High School and Rappahannock Community College partner to offer students the opportunity to begin an Associates's Degree while in high school. An Associates Degree from Rappahannock Community College offers individuals Guaranteed Admissions to four-year colleges and universities in Virginia. (See RCC's site.) This scholarship is accessible to current ninth, tenth and eleventh graders at KGHS who are taking college courses towards earning an Associate's degree at RCC.

Applicant must:
 - Complete and submit the application a minimum of two weeks prior to the start of classes at RCC
 - Prepare an essay (minimum of 300 words) expressing why they are taking college classes while in high school and their academic and career plans after    completing the Associate's Degree.
 - Demonstrate financial need (ongoing or situational)
 - Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher

One scholarship will be awarded for each semester, provided there are qualified applicants, and on a course-by-course basis. Applicants may reapply for subsequent semesters.
